Well, sort of. We cancelled our cable today and don't plan on buying an antenna. We just decided that it's whats best for our family. We are tired of the media filling ours and our children's heads with garbage. I also think it will help Nevin to use his imagination more, read more and play outside more. All great things! :)
I broke the news to Nevin earlier and he took to it as expected...he totally freaked. He'll be fine though. We've gone without cable in the past and he adjusted well. We aren't throwing the TVs out or anything and he still has video games. We'll also build up a good collection of DVD's as well as rent some. It was hard for me too! I called Josh and said "if we are going to do this, then do it now, before I change my mind" Haha!!

Ah, good for you! *smile*
We don't have any channels either but do have movies and games... And even that we had to limit, because they were getting to be too much... It was painful at first putting the limit, but after about a week, it was amazing the shift.
Mine is younger then your oldest, but watching the things he found to do instead of video games or movies was fun to see.
From making his own science experiments to setting up a pillow city. We also started family game nights (board games) and of course crafty things... There was more reading time, he started wanting to cook with me... Even more chores, etc...
When getting rid of the cable channels, there were a few I missed and some people look at me like I'm crazy when I don't know about their favorite show... But it became a part of my life not having the TV on and so I don't even miss it anymore.
Good Luck with your NO-TV adventure!
we ditched our satellite after ben was born due to budget restraints. we did get an antennae and do have a netflix account. although the only thing we ever seem to watch when it is on is PBS or grown up movies/shows after the boys have gone to bed. it's amazing how much time was lost in front of the boob tube, and it was all crap tv anyway. i will never go back to paying for television. good luck!
I would never get Shaun to do that.. honestly though.. I rarely watch tv.. if I were going to cancel something that I waste tons of time on.. it'd have to be the internet! And that just ain't happenin'!! ;)
Oh I didn't get Josh to do it. He wanted to even more than I did! Haha.
I agree, the internet can be such a time waster...but it is also very useful and helpful.
We barely watch T.V here either. Well, I don't. I go days sometimes without watching. Nevin on the other hand loves to watch it. It's more of a concern for him and Kieran.
That's great! If it weren't for my hubbys love of ESPN, I think I could convince him.
